EuroTest participates in European Road Safety Day

Europe celebrated the second European Road Safety Day on 13 October 2008. Focusing on "Road Safety in our Cities" stakeholders staged events all over Europe. EuroTest was present at the main event in Paris, at the "Espace Grande Arche", in La Défense.

"Everyone has a right to road safety but we all must share responsibility for ensuring road safety for all".  This was the central EuroTest message communicated to all attending this event among whom, the main VIPS included Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the European Commission responsible for transport and road safety, Jacques Barrot, also a European Commission Vice President responsible for Justice Freedom and Security and Michèle Merli, Head of Road Safety in France.

EuroTest has examined quality, safety and mobility in urban areas across a range of studies to the benefit of all road users in Europe covering pedestrian crossings, road signing, road works, road tunnels, use of electronic stability control and driver awareness.  Safety and quality are integral aspects of city life and aspects upon which EuroTest's key objectives are based:

- Raising public awareness about the actual state of mobility in Europe.
- Calling for the quality and safety standards EuroTest believes mobile consumers deserve.
- Providing mobile consumers with tips and recommendations so they can safeguard their own mobility and safety.
- Stimulating public debate about identified failings and if necessary calling for regulation.

European Road Safety Day saw the launch of the new EuroTest leaflet and information video.  Links can be found below.

Notes for the editors:
1. EuroTest has been putting to the test the quality and safety of Europe's mobility infrastructure since 2000. The EuroTest programme is conducted by a consortium of European automobile clubs, under the aegis of the FIA - Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile in Brussels who collectively represent over 34 million mobile European consumers.

2. In defence of consumer interests, EuroTest studies have been built on test methodologies that draw on the best available practices and regulation. All surveys use a common rating scheme and each test is repeated periodically to check for enhancements.

3. EuroTest is about "making the difference". Test results published Europe wide in the media, calls for new measures, advice to operators and consumers all play a role. Improvements are achieved for consumers.  National and European authorities, in response to identified shortcomings, often answer positively.
